KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- The Universiti Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) alumni association will hold a corporate wakaf seminar on July 27 at Kelab Tasik Putrajaya themed "Transforming Wakaf for the Benefit of Future Generations."
In a statement here, association president Mohammad Sahar Mat Din said there is increasing awareness of the role of wakaf in the nation's economic development, aided by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's Budget 2013 proposal for a corporate wakaf masterplan.
"Corporate wakaf has the potential to spur national economic development by institutionalising wakaf, thus injecting the spirit of Islam into the development process without hampering growth," he said.
He said corporate wakaf generates wealth and so is not just for welfare purposes, and would not be so named if it does not expand economic and job opportunities as well as enhance income and quality of life.
Mohammad Sahar said the association will work to incorporate corporate wakaf elements in the university's educational development.
